SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Tributes continue to pour in from across South Dakota following the death of Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Deputy Katherine Frank, who died Monday after being shot in the line of duty.
Deputy Frank, 26, passed away three days after the shooting, prompting an outpouring of support from law enforcement agencies, community members, and public officials throughout the region.
An emotional Minnehaha County Sheriff Mike Milstead called the loss a tragedy for Frank’s family, the law enforcement community, and the public she served. Milstead said her death has deeply affected officers across the state and encouraged residents to show appreciation for law enforcement personnel.
Sheriff-elect Josh Phillips said the community response has been overwhelming and reflects the impact Frank made during her service as a deputy.
Officials also shared that, in a final act of service to others, Deputy Frank chose to be an organ donor. Phillips said that decision was a reflection of the type of person she was and her commitment to helping others.
Plans to honor Deputy Frank are currently being finalized as family, friends, fellow officers, and community members continue to mourn her loss.
