RAPID CITY, S.D. – Residents have just a few days left to visit a special exhibit at Rapid City City Hall highlighting often-overlooked figures of the American Revolution.
The free display, hosted by the Black Hills Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, is part of the national E Pluribus Unum Educational Initiative and will remain on display through next Monday.
The exhibit showcases African American and Native American patriots, influential women of the Revolutionary War, and international supporters of American independence. Featured figures include Marquis de Lafayette, Phillis Wheatley, Mercy Otis Warren, and members of the Oneida Indian Nation.
Visitors can also view South Dakota’s award-winning America 250 commemorative quilt, which celebrates the nation’s founding through handcrafted panels representing the original colonies and Continental Army units.
Organizers say the exhibit helps tell a more complete story of the American Revolution by recognizing the contributions of those whose roles have often gone unrecognized.
