Attorney General Marty Jackley has announced the formation of a 15-member Advisory Task Force Committee on Open Meetings Laws, set to hold its first meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 10 a.m. CST in Pierre. The group will explore potential legislative updates to improve transparency in government operations.
Unlike the existing Open Meetings Commission, which investigates violations, this task force includes representatives from state agencies, media, school boards, and local governments. Jackley emphasized the importance of taxpayer-funded transparency, stating the committee’s goal is to strengthen public access and accountability.
The meeting will be held both in person at the George S. Mickelson Criminal Justice Training Center and virtually via TEAMs.
