RAPID CITY, S.D. — Thousands of pieces of Halloween candy and dozens of costumes have been collected through the annual Halloween Candy and Costume Collection Drive, helping ensure local children can take part in Halloween activities and celebrations this year.
The drive, organized by Journey On and the Rapid City Police Department’s Community Engagement Team, was held for the fourth consecutive year. Community members donated candy and costumes at collection sites located at City Hall, Journey On offices, and the Rapid City Police Department Substation at Uptown Mall.
The donations will support youth in need and help stock safe trick-or-treat events planned throughout Rapid City later this month.
Journey On will also host Halloween Costume Boo-tiques in the Knollwood Townhomes, Star Village, and Sagebrush Flats neighborhoods. The events will allow children to select a donated costume or create one of their own, ensuring they have the opportunity to participate in school-sponsored Halloween activities and other community celebrations.
Organizers say the strong community response will help make Halloween more accessible and enjoyable for local families.
