SOUTH DAKOTA – South Dakota’s top Republican candidates are making a final push to boost voter turnout ahead of next week’s election.
Governor Larry Rhoden, U.S. Senator Mike Rounds and Attorney General Marty Jackley stopped in Rapid City Tuesday as part of a 12-city “Get Out the Vote” bus tour across the state. The three candidates are seeking statewide and federal offices in the November 3 general election.
During the event, the candidates emphasized a united Republican message and discussed issues they say voters are concerned about, including the cost of living, fuel prices, property taxes, and healthcare costs.
Rhoden said property taxes remain a major issue for South Dakotans, while Rounds promoted expanded use of E-15 fuel as a way to support agriculture and potentially lower gas prices. Jackley said healthcare affordability remains a top priority and called for reforms aimed at increasing competition in the healthcare marketplace.
The tour continues through communities across South Dakota this week, including stops in Pierre, Mitchell, Sioux Falls, Watertown, Madison and Brookings.
Election Day is Tuesday, November 3. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and voters are encouraged to bring a valid photo ID when heading to the polls.
