RAPID CITY, S.D. – A fundraiser has been established for a 14-year-old Rapid City girl who suffered serious injuries after being struck in a hit-and-run crash while walking to school.
According to family members, Emma was crossing at 5th and Omaha streets on October 27 when she was hit by a Jeep, dragged, and left at the scene as the driver fled. Emma, an honors student, violin player, and Math League competitor, has already undergone surgery for three broken bones in her hand and is expected to face additional operations as she continues her recovery.
A GoFundMe campaign has been created to help cover medical expenses. As of Tuesday afternoon, more than $12,700 had been raised.
Police have since arrested David Kroeger, who faces a felony hit-and-run charge in connection with the crash.
