RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City has reached a major construction milestone, surpassing 400 million dollars in building permit valuation for only the second time in the city’s history.
According to the city’s Building Services Division, more than 2,250 building permits have been issued through the first 10 months of the year, totaling more than 422 million dollars in valuation. That’s up from the same period last year and puts the city within reach of the all-time record of 463 million dollars set in 2023.
In October alone, the city issued 225 permits valued at more than 27 million dollars. The largest project was a 6.1 million dollar classroom and gymnasium addition at Zion Lutheran School. Other major projects included improvements at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Sanford Health’s new medical office building site, renovations at the Golden West facility, and fire alarm upgrades at Black Hills Power’s Lange II Generation Building.
City officials say the figures reflect continued growth and investment across the Rapid City area.
