RAPID CITY, S.D. – Republican Heather Baxter of Rapid City has won South Dakota’s race for secretary of state, defeating Democrat Terrence Davis and Libertarian Tamara Lesnar. Baxter, a state representative from District 34, will oversee state elections, business registrations, public records, and licensing for the next four years.
Her campaign focused on improving communication with county auditors, businesses, and voters, while modernizing the secretary of state’s website to make public information easier to access.
Baxter secured the Republican nomination after defeating incumbent Secretary of State Monae Johnson at the party convention.
