PIERRE, S.D. — South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley is joining attorneys general from 45 states and territories in urging Congress to pass the Kids Online Safety Act. The proposed legislation would establish minimum safety standards for social media and gaming platforms while allowing states to continue enforcing their own child protection laws.
Jackley said South Dakota has already taken steps to improve online safety through state legislation and a $52 million settlement with Meta, but argues federal action is needed to create consistent protections for children and teens across the technology industry.
