Governor Larry Rhoden and the South Dakota Department of Health joined communities nationwide in celebrating National Rural Health Day, an annual observance led by the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health (NOSORH). The day highlights the challenges faced by rural communities and honors those working to support the health of nearly 61 million Americans.
Governor Rhoden signed a proclamation declaring November 20 as Rural Health Day in South Dakota, noting that “our rural heritage is our strength” and pledging continued investment in rural healthcare. With 43 percent of South Dakotans living in rural or frontier areas, the state emphasizes innovative, community-centered solutions to support families, first responders, and healthcare providers.
This year, Jones County Ambulance Service was named South Dakota’s 2025 Community Star, recognized for its dedication to serving central South Dakota with professionalism and compassion.
