With cold weather approaching, South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks (GFP) biologists are transitioning from open water to ice fishing season. Staff are removing docks and buoys to prevent freeze damage while inspecting for aquatic invasive species.
The removals also aid in the detection of zebra mussels, according to Fisheries Program Administrator Jake Davis.
Anglers and lakeshore residents are reminded to clean, drain, and dry boats and equipment after use, and report any suspect mussels to GFP. Monitoring will continue as infrastructure is pulled for winter.
