Deadwood police are pursuing leads after a bomb threat forced the evacuation of the Gold Dust Casino and Maverick’s Steakhouse on Saturday evening.
Officers were dispatched to 688 Main Street at 6:45 p.m. following a call reporting a bomb threat, with a second call warning that law enforcement would be targeted if they responded. Police secured the area and evacuated the busy casino and restaurant.
The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office and Deadwood Police searched the premises but found no explosives. The businesses reopened at 8:57 p.m. after a full sweep.
Chief Cory Shafer said investigators are tracing cell phone and VOIP numbers linked to the incident. The South Dakota Commission on Gaming and the Department of Criminal Investigation are assisting.
