The South Dakota Housing for the Homeless Consortium announced Thursday that the annual statewide point-in-time homeless count will take place Jan. 27, 2026.
The one-day national survey estimates the number of people experiencing homelessness or fleeing domestic violence. Data collected provides a snapshot used by policymakers to track progress, identify service gaps, and plan future programs.
South Dakota is divided into six regions, with local coordinators, agencies, and volunteers assisting.
Participation is required for federally funded homeless programs and encouraged for communities seeking future grants. Since 2001, the consortium has received more than $39 million in federal funding to support homeless services statewide.
