The murder trial of Pam White Butterfly continued Monday, with jurors hearing forensic testimony about evidence from the February shooting that killed Lenart Brown Eyes and critically injured his brother, Gerard. White Butterfly faces charges of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.
Prosecutors allege White Butterfly argued with Brown Eyes at his Rapid City trailer before taking his gun and shooting him twice. Gerard was struck while cooking dinner. White Butterfly allegedly fled with the weapon, which has not been recovered.
Forensic experts focused on a dark blue windbreaker White Butterfly wore at the time of her arrest. DNA testing confirmed blood stains belonging to Lenart Brown Eyes, and gunshot residue was found across the jacket’s front and hood. Experts noted the residue could result from firing a gun, being near gunfire, or contact with contaminated surfaces.
After the state rested its case, the defense declined to present witnesses or an opening statement. Closing arguments are scheduled for this morning, followed by jury deliberations.
