The Christmas holiday brought some record temperatures to the region as Rapid City Regional Airport saw a high of 71 degrees Christmas Day eclipsing the previous record high of 60 set in 1963. The National Weather Service office recorded a high of 68 topping the previous record of 63 degrees also set in 1963.
The warm temperatures arrived behind gusty winds that topped 70 miles per hour in some areas as a warm front moved across the region. Temperatures at 10am Thursday ranged from 68 in Belle Fourche behind the front to the upper 20’s and low 30’s ahead of the front to the northeast.
Warm and breezy conditions are expected to remain through Saturday evening before a chance of snow and blustery conditions drop nighttime lows to about 10 above Saturday and Sunday nights.
