South Dakota has officially wrapped up its statewide PFAS Collection and Exchange Initiative, a program that helped fire departments remove older firefighting foams containing PFAS and replace them with PFAS‑free SoyFoam.
The Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources said the effort successfully collected legacy foams from departments across the state, reducing the risk of environmental contamination. The program was supported by the South Dakota Soybean Checkoff, which helped supply the soy‑based replacement foam.
DANR officials said the initiative not only removed harmful PFAS products from circulation but also encouraged safer firefighting practices moving forward.
