Rapid City police were called to a business in the 2200 block of West Main Street around 3:53 a.m. Wednesday after a report that a man was smashing windows. Officers arrived to find one window had been broken.
While investigating that incident, officers were alerted to a second burglar alarm at a business in the 2100 block of West Main Street. When they arrived, they saw a suspect actively burglarizing the building.
The man ran from the scene, but after a brief foot chase, officers arrested him as he attempted to break into a parked vehicle.
Police identified the suspect as 49‑year‑old Jeremy Bickett of Rapid City.
Bickett was booked into the Pennington County Jail and faces charges of third‑degree burglary, a Class 5 felony, and aggravated criminal entry of a motor vehicle, a Class 6 felony.
Given the timing, location, and similarities between the incidents, investigators believe Bickett is also responsible for the broken window at the first business. Police are reviewing surveillance footage and processing evidence, and additional charges may follow.
Bickett is scheduled to make his initial court appearance on December 29.
