Rapid City will retire its long‑running “Sure Pay” program on March 1 as part of a major upgrade to the city’s utility billing system, officials announced Tuesday. The change follows the launch of an enhanced online payment portal earlier this month, which now supports credit cards, debit cards, e‑checks and interactive voice response payments.
Sure Pay, which currently handles automatic withdrawals from customer bank accounts, is being phased out to make way for new automatic payment options tied to credit and debit cards.
Beginning March 1, customers will be able to pay their utility bills through several methods:
- Online via eCheck, credit card or debit card
- Cash or check at City Hall
- Check by mail or drop box at City Hall
- Bill payments initiated through their bank
The city is notifying all Sure Pay users about the transition and available alternatives. The updated portal also offers electronic billing alerts and a more user‑friendly interface.
