No one was injured after a fire destroyed a building in rural Pennington County early Saturday, according to the Rockerville Fire Department.
Crews were dispatched shortly after midnight on Jan. 3 after reports of flames visible from Highway 79. Firefighters eventually located the blaze at the end of Ember Road, finding the structure fully engulfed. Because the nearest water source was miles away, a second alarm was requested for additional tenders. Crews worked through the night and cleared the scene around 6 a.m.
Rockerville Fire thanked local residents and businesses who brought equipment, including a backhoe and skid steer, to help access the building’s interior. Multiple agencies assisted, including Rapid City Fire, Battle Creek Fire, several volunteer departments, Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, and Pennington County Search and Rescue, which provided lighting.
The cause of the fire has not been released.
