Travelers at Rapid City Regional Airport helped generate a $2,000 donation to Cornerstone Rescue Mission through the airport’s ongoing “Empty Pockets = Full Plates” program.
The initiative encourages passengers to drop spare change into collection boxes as they pass through the TSA security checkpoint. The loose coins are then donated to Cornerstone Rescue Mission to support meals, shelter, and other essential services for people in need across the Rapid City area.
Cornerstone Executive Director Lysa Allison said the contributions make a meaningful difference.
Airport Deputy Director of Finance and Administration Toni Broom said the program works because it fits seamlessly into the travel routine.
The program was created after airport staff noticed how much loose change is typically left behind at security checkpoints nationwide. Since launching, “Empty Pockets = Full Plates” has raised more than $25,000 for Cornerstone Rescue Mission.
