The Oglala Sioux Tribe released new details Tuesday about four tribal members they say were detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Minneapolis last week.
According to the update, the tribe has learned the first names of all four individuals. One has since been released, while the remaining three were reportedly transferred to the ICE detention facility at Fort Snelling, Minnesota.
Tribal President Frank Star Comes Out also sent a letter Tuesday to several federal officials including Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum asserting that Oglala Sioux citizens are U.S. citizens and “not subject to unlawful immigration enforcement actions” by ICE or Homeland Security. The letter demands immediate confirmation of the identities, locations, and legal status of all detained tribal members, as well as their prompt release.
The tribe says President Star Comes Out and several Tribal Council representatives plan to travel to Minneapolis on Friday for meetings and a press conference with other tribal leaders.
