Rapid City police are investigating a suspicious death after an unresponsive man was found Monday afternoon in an improvised outdoor encampment near the railroad tracks along the 100 block of E. North Street.
Officers were dispatched to the area at around 4:35 p.m.. When they arrived, they located the man inside the encampment and determined he was deceased. According to police, visible injuries at the scene prompted investigators to classify the death as suspicious.
An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the man’s cause of death. The Rapid City Police Department is conducting the investigation in partnership with the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact Detective Morgan Slanina at 605‑394‑4134. Anonymous tips can also be submitted by texting “RCPD” and relevant details to 847411.
