South Dakota is seeing a continued rise in influenza activity, with new data showing thousands of confirmed cases and multiple recent deaths across the state.
As of the latest statewide report on January 28, 2026, the South Dakota Department of Health has recorded 8,017 influenza cases and nine flu‑related deaths since the start of the year. All nine individuals were over age 64, with the two most recent in Minnehaha and Fall River counties.
Current data shows 625 cases and 18 flu-related hospitalizations across the state.
