A former Deadwood city commissioner is again facing legal trouble after being charged with first-degree burglary and multiple new counts of violating a no-contact order.
Blake Joseph was charged with burglary after allegedly breaking into an apartment in Belle Fourche. According to court documents, Joseph and a woman identified as Emily Kutil of Deadwood were passengers in a vehicle whose driver was arrested for suspected DUI. With the owner’s permission, the pair drove the vehicle back to her residence to prevent it from being impounded.
However, on January 2, the driver told authorities that after she was released from jail and returned to her Belle Fourche apartment, she found Joseph and Kutil inside without permission. The two are accused of stealing personal items and using the victim’s credit card.
Warrants for Joseph and Kutil were issued in Butte County on Wednesday. Bond for each was set at $10,000 cash or surety.
Joseph is also accused of violating a no-contact order involving an alleged victim in a domestic violence case. The order was part of a bond agreement following his January 15 arrest. This is the third alleged violation involving the same individual.
