Fire crews responded around 1:30 a.m. Thursday morning to a garage fire in the 200 block of Viking Drive after homeowners awoke to the smell of smoke and unusual noises.
According to officials, the residents investigated the disturbance and discovered a fire burning in the garage and beginning to spread into the home. All occupants evacuated safely before firefighters arrived.
Crews also located two pet birds inside the residence and were able to shelter them in place until conditions were safe for removal.
Firefighters contained the blaze, and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
