Candidates interested in running for the Rapid City Common Council can now pick up election packets at the City Finance Department. One seat in each of the city’s five wards is up for election in the June 2 municipal election, and petitions must be filed by 5 p.m. on March 24.
Voters will choose council members to serve three‑year terms. Incumbents Josh Biberdorf (Ward 1), Lindsey Seachris (Ward 2), Kevin Maher (Ward 3), John Roberts (Ward 4), and Rod Pettigrew (Ward 5) are up for re‑election.
Packets include petitions, a guide to serving on the council, required forms, and filing deadlines. Candidates may begin circulating nominating petitions and must submit at least 50 valid signatures from registered voters in their ward, though they are encouraged to gather more.
Winners will be determined by simple majority—no runoff elections will be held. Successful candidates will take office on July 6.
