A Pine Ridge man has been sentenced to 19 years and seven months in federal prison for his role in a meth trafficking conspiracy and for possessing a firearm during a drug crime, the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced.
James Shangreaux will also serve five years of supervised release, must pay $200 in special assessments, and was ordered to forfeit the pistol involved in the case.
Shangreaux was indicted in March 2025 and pleaded guilty last September. Prosecutors say he helped distribute more than 350 grams of meth in Rapid City and on the Pine Ridge Reservation, acting as an organizer who traveled to Colorado and wired money to suppliers.
The case began after a pursuit near the reservation boundary. Officers found meth and a concealed 9mm pistol on Shangreaux when he was arrested.
Federal officials say the case is part of Operation Take Back America, a Justice Department initiative targeting cartels, transnational crime groups, and violent offenders through coordinated federal and local law‑enforcement efforts.
