A 38‑year‑old man is in custody after law enforcement responded to a reported burglary in progress Sunday afternoon off Sylvan Lake Road.
According to authorities, the call came in at 3:52 p.m. on February 15, reporting an active burglary and a property owner holding the suspect at gunpoint. Deputies arrived shortly afterward and arrested the armed suspect, who was also carrying a knife at the time of the incident.
During a search of the surrounding area, officers discovered an unoccupied residence that may have also been burglarized. Investigators are now working to determine whether the two incidents are connected.
Officials are asking residents along Sylvan Lake Road—from the City of Custer to Elk Valley Road—to check their properties for signs of missing items or disturbances. They also encourage anyone with surveillance systems to review footage for possible sightings of the suspect or others who may have been involved. Authorities say they are also willing to check homes belonging to residents who are currently out of town.
