After social media posts claimed ICE agents were on the Black Hills State University campus last week, University officials confirmed that Immigration and Customs Enforcement did visit BHSU, but only for a routine compliance review of international student records ā a process that happens about once each semester.
The check is part of the federal Student and Exchange Visitor Program, which allows BHSU to enroll students on Fā1 and Jā1 visas. Officials say the review is administrative, similar to an audit, and not related to immigration enforcement.
BHSU currently hosts 25 international students from 15 countries.
