The Black Hills National Forest has lifted the emergency closure put in place for the Qury Fire area. Officials announced Tuesday that the Emergency Area Closure Order was rescinded effective immediately.
The now‑rescinded closure covered National Forest System lands west of the US 385/US 16A intersection to the Custer State Park boundary, and south of that intersection to the Wind Cave National Park boundary.
Forest officials acknowledged the closure caused confusion and said they are reviewing both the necessity and the size of such closures moving forward. They said they will continue coordinating with partner agencies as they evaluate future decisions.
Although the emergency order is lifted, authorities are urging the public to stay away from the fire area. Fire crews remain active, and civilian presence can endanger both firefighters and the public by forcing crews to split their attention between suppression efforts and safety concerns.
Officials stress that avoiding the area is critical for ongoing firefighting operations and public safety.
