Rapid City native Maya Anjali Buchanan has been invited to a two‑week trial with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the final step toward earning full membership after a highly competitive audition that drew hundreds of violinists worldwide.
The Philadelphia Orchestra is regarded as one of the nation’s top ensembles, alongside Boston, New York, Cleveland, and Chicago—an opportunity that places Buchanan on an international stage. The orchestra frequently tours globally as a leading ambassador of American music.
Buchanan credits her mother for encouraging her musical path, saying the push to learn an instrument taught her discipline and a deep appreciation for the arts. She performed a recital at the Journey Museum last week and thanked the teachers, orchestras, and organizations in Rapid City that helped shape her career.
