Gov. Larry Rhoden signed five budget bills on Thursday, including HB 1326, the general appropriations act for Fiscal Year 2027. Rhoden praised the state’s long record of fiscal discipline, noting this marks South Dakota’s 137th consecutive balanced budget.
South Dakota maintains AAA credit ratings, a fully funded pension system, and a constitutional requirement for a balanced budget.
Rhoden also approved:
• SB 74 – transfers money to the general fund and declares an emergency;
• SB 78 – revises the FY 2026 budget;
• SB 119 – creates and funds the Capitol Restoration Fund;
• HB 1051 – updates school district property tax levies and state aid formulas.
The Governor plans to sign several pro-life bills today at an event in Sioux Falls.
So far this session, Rhoden has signed 190 bills and issued one veto.
