South Dakota’s drought conditions continue to intensify this week, with the latest U.S. Drought Monitor showing expanding areas of severe and extreme drought across the state. The update, released yesterday, highlights worsening dryness in both the southeast and southwest, while northern regions remain largely drought‑free.
According to the South Dakota Drought Monitor, portions of Fall River and Custer counties are listed in the extreme category. About one‑third of the state’s area is not experiencing drought at this time.
