The South Dakota Board of Regents has named Dr. John R. Ballard the next president of Dakota State University.
Ballard currently leads the National Intelligence University, where he oversaw technology‑focused programs, expanded partnerships, and helped boost graduation rates. Regents said his experience aligns with DSU’s cybersecurity and technology mission.
A former provost of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Ballard has held leadership roles in the U.S. and abroad and holds degrees from the U.S. Naval Academy, California State University–Dominguez Hills, and The Catholic University of America.
Ballard will begin his role in June.
