A 32‑year‑old Rapid City man has been sentenced to 25 years in state prison after pleading guilty to two counts of aggravated assault.
Trevon Spotted Eagle entered guilty pleas in February. At sentencing, the court accepted the state’s recommendation and imposed two consecutive 12½‑year sentences, totaling 25 years.
The charges stem from a violent incident in which Spotted Eagle shot one person in the head and later threatened multiple others with a firearm, including his pregnant girlfriend. Prosecutors said evidence included a video showing Spotted Eagle repeatedly pointing a gun at his girlfriend whenever she looked at him.
Senior Deputy State’s Attorney Jason Thomas argued that the violence was not an isolated event but part of a pattern, urging the court to impose the full sentence.
Seventh Circuit Judge Joshua Hendrickson described the defendant’s actions as “extremely violent, unnecessary, and disturbing” before ordering the sentences to be served consecutively.
The case was prosecuted by Senior Deputy State’s Attorney Jason Thomas on behalf of the state.
