A 46‑year‑old Rapid City man died early Thursday morning in a single‑vehicle crash on South Dakota Highway 44, about five miles east of Scenic.
The crash occurred shortly before 7 a.m. near mile marker 92, according to the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
Preliminary information indicates the man was driving a 2007 Toyota 4Runner eastbound when the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve. The SUV left the roadway into the north ditch, overcorrected, crossed the highway, and entered the south ditch, where it rolled before coming to rest.
The driver sustained fatal injuries and was not wearing a seat belt according to authorites.
The victim’s name has not been released pending notification of family members.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and all information released is preliminary.
