Military children are being recognized across the Rapid City area this weekend as part of Purple Up! For Military Kids Day and the Month of the Military Child.
Ellsworth Air Force Base will host a Purple Up Rally on Friday, April 10, from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. Organized by the School Liaison Office, the event invites volunteers to cheer on military children with signs and noisemakers. Participation is limited to DoD cardholders, and advance registration is required.
In Rapid City, the Dinosaur Park landmark will be lit purple throughout the weekend in honor of military children and their families. Mayor Jason Salamun is also issuing a proclamation at Ellsworth AFB encouraging community support. Residents are encouraged to wear purple Friday. The dinosaur will return to normal lighting on Monday.
