A Rapid City man was arrested last Thursday after allegedly setting a fire near a residence and interfering with firefighters trying to extinguish it.
Police were dispatched around 2:30 p.m. to the 200 block of East Denver Street following a report that a male had set a pile of branches on fire and fled the scene in a vehicle. When officers arrived, they found the branches still smoldering near a nearby residence.
As firefighters worked to put out the flames, the man who allegedly started the fire returned to the scene and began yelling and obstructing firefighters as they attempted to extinguish the fire. He was identified as 50-year-old Angelo Shiraldi of Rapid City.
Shiraldi was detained in handcuffs and later placed under arrest. He was charged with reckless burning and obstruction before being transported to the Pennington County Jail.
No injuries were reported.
