Rapid City police arrested a 24-year-old woman Saturday afternoon following a reported assault at a local apartment and a subsequent altercation with an officer.
Officers were dispatched around 2:35 p.m. to an apartment at 120 Surfwood Drive for a report that a woman had just assaulted another woman inside the residence.
When officers arrived, they encountered a female, later identified as Victoria Craig of Rapid City, exiting the apartment with blood on her hands. Police instructed Craig to stop, but she refused. Officers then grabbed her by the arm, at which point she allegedly struck one officer in the face.
Police took Craig to the ground, where she continued to kick the officer, according to authorities. A second officer arrived to assist, and Craig was ultimately detained without further incident.
After speaking with witnesses at the scene, officers determined Craig was responsible for the initial assault. Police also learned she was on parole at the time.
Craig was arrested on charges of simple assault, simple assault on a law enforcement officer, and a parole hold. She was transported to the Pennington County Jail. The incident remains under investigation.
