A Rapid City man was arrested Monday night after an alleged theft led to a brief foot chase and the deployment of a police K9 unit.
Police were dispatched around 8 p.m. April 6 to a business on Eglin Street after reports a man was using a knife to open merchandise and conceal items. Officers saw the suspect, identified as 34-year-old Christopher Moore Jr., attempt to leave the store without paying. When an officer tried to stop him, Moore fled on foot, jumping a fence and running across Interstate 90 before a police K9 tracked him to a nearby construction site, where he surrendered.
Police said Moore was on parole at the time of the incident. He was arrested on charges including theft, vandalism, obstruction, a concealed weapons violation, multiple outstanding warrants and a parole hold, and was transported to the Pennington County Jail. No injuries were reported.
