A 26‑year‑old Eagle Butte man has been sentenced to federal prison for possessing stolen ammunition, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Nathanal Benoist was sentenced to 14 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. A federal judge also ordered him to forfeit a firearm and ammunition and to pay a $100 assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
The charges stem from a break‑in at a business in Eagle Butte on Nov. 1, 2024. Authorities said Benoist fired a shot through the front window of the closed store, climbed inside, and stole ammunition. The business is located on the Cheyenne River Sioux Indian Reservation.
Benoist was indicted in March 2025 and pleaded guilty in July and was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service following sentencing.
