Despite less than favorable weather conditions, fire crews have reached 90% containment on the 79 Fire burning north of Buffalo Gap, prompting incident command to be returned to local authorities.
The wildfire, located about three miles north of Buffalo Gap, has burned an estimated 5,408 acres since igniting earlier this week. The fire was determined to be human-caused.
Incident command officially transferred back to the local fire department at 7 p.m. last night. While the interagency team has concluded its operations, resources will continue to patrol and monitor the fire periodically to ensure it does not escape containment lines.
