A Rapid City Council Ward 4 candidate announced Wednesday he is dropping out of the race.
Ardin Cychosz said in a Facebook post that the decision was difficult but necessary due to increased responsibilities at his job with Creative Iron Works and Black Hills Powder Coating, including a new role requiring travel. He said balancing work demands with serving on the City Council would be challenging.
Cychosz’s name will still appear on the June 2 ballot because of election deadlines, but he said he wanted to be transparent that he is withdrawing from active candidacy.
The Ward 4 race now continues between incumbent John Roberts and Valeriah Big Eagle. Seats in all five Rapid City council wards are up for election, though Ward 5 incumbent Rod Pettigrew is not seeking reelection.
Absentee voting begins April 17, with Election Day set for June 2.
