A Rapid City man is in custody after DNA evidence linked him to a December 2025 armed robbery and vehicle theft in Sioux Falls.
Court documents say the suspect held a knife to the victim and forced him to send $500 through Cash App before attempting to stab him and stealing his car. The vehicle was recovered the next day near Kadoka. DNA swabs taken from the car matched 21-year-old Deaundrea Janis, a parole absconder, and the victim later identified him in a photo lineup.
Janis is charged with first-degree robbery, grand theft and two counts of aggravated assault.
