The Meade County Sheriff’s Office is investigating more than a dozen reported burglaries involving unlocked vehicles in the Black Hawk area.
Sheriff Pat West said the incidents mirror similar cases reported elsewhere in the region. In several cases, vehicles were entered but nothing was taken. However, two firearms were stolen from unsecured vehicles, and some vehicles had keys left inside.
Authorities say these situations provide easy opportunities for theft and urge residents to lock their vehicles and never leave firearms unsecured.
The sheriff’s office has collected surveillance video and other evidence from multiple locations and is asking anyone with footage showing suspicious activity or individuals checking vehicles to contact the Meade County Sheriff’s Office.
