Nearly 1,500 South Dakota high school students gathered in Sioux Falls this week to explore careers in health care at the two‑day HOSA Leadership Conference.
Students from more than 50 chapters attended sessions at the Sanford Pentagon, learning about pathways ranging from technical health care roles to medical school and specialized professions. Organizers say students can explore more than 40 breakout sessions on topics like artificial intelligence, behavioral health, and emerging medical fields, while also competing in skills‑based events.
Participants were also recognized with awards and scholarships for their achievements. State leaders say interest in health science careers continues to grow, with HOSA membership increasing by more than 10% this school year. Advisors are now looking to expand opportunities, including virtual options to reach students in more rural and remote parts of the state.
