Sheriff Brian Mueller told Pennington County county commissioners that the county has been awarded a $615,000 grant from the South Dakota Opioid Advisory Committee.
Mueller said the funds, issued through the state Department of Social Services, will be added to the county’s restricted opioid budget in installments of about $205,000. Commissioners took no action, as the update was informational.
Specific spending plans are still being discussed, but Mueller said he hopes to use the money to enhance services at the Pennington County Care Campus and improve coordination among addiction treatment providers in Rapid City.
The state has received nearly $33 million in opioid settlement funds, with about $9.6 million distributed to local governments so far. Rapid City and Pennington County have received a combined $1.5 million, according to state data.
