South Dakota’s Bureau of Information & Technology (BIT) plans to seek support from the U.S. Department of Defense’s Innovative Readiness Training (IRT) Program to help strengthen the state’s cybersecurity posture.
BIT announced the proposed collaboration would focus on improving cyber resilience, conducting security assessments, and aligning state systems with cybersecurity best practices. The engagement is planned for Federal Fiscal Year 2027 and would be based at the Sioux Falls One-Stop, with the possibility of expanding to additional locations.
State officials said the project would involve military participation under the IRT Program, which pairs real-world training for service members with community and government support initiatives.
Construction contractors, labor unions, or private individuals with questions or concerns about military involvement in the project are encouraged to contact the Office of the Chief Information Security Officer within 30 days of the notice’s first publication. Comments received after that period will be considered a waiver of objection to military assistance for the project.
