The Rapid City Legal and Finance Committee has recommended that the City Council approve up to $10,000 in matching funds for the Bowls of Hope fundraiser, which helps residents struggling to pay utility bills.
Bowls of Hope is part of a partnership between the city and St. Vincent de Paul, with city employees hosting soup events in exchange for public donations. Two events last year raised $2,900 to help offset utility costs for people enrolled in the program.
A third soup event is scheduled for May 19 at 6 p.m. at the Dahl Arts Center. If approved by the City Council on Monday, public donations from upcoming events would be matched by the city up to $10,000 from the council contingency fund.
