The South Dakota Department of Health reported one additional flu-related death this week, along with seven new hospitalizations and 100 new confirmed cases.
So far during the 2025–2026 flu season, the state has recorded 33 deaths, 978 hospitalizations and 17,990 cases.
Health officials say this year’s flu season peaked in early February. While most people recover within a couple of days with rest and fluids, young children and older adults are at higher risk for severe illness.
The Department of Health recommends routine immunizations and frequent handwashing as the best ways to prevent the flu.
